Say if you let your friend drive your car and he get’s in an accident. Can you car insurance company say that the insurance coverage didn’t count because your friend didn’t have seat belts on? Thx.

They may not cover his injuries.
Ask ahead of time to make sure your car is covered.

They *could* if they had a clause in the written contract that additional drivers would only be covered if they followed all applicable law, but it’s very unlikely that would be in your contract.

I don’t know of any state that would allow coverage to be denied for this reason. It’s against public policy. Look at it this way… coverage is not denied if a person is speeding, coverage is not denied if you run a red light, etc. Of course this is for 1st party coverage as you can’t deny _coverage_ to a 3rd party (as they don’t get _coverage_ from the policy to begin with, the insured gets coverage).

Yes, alot of them now have a clause in the policy stating if you have no seatbelt on they are not liable….it ***** but they are doing it.
